A popular free Android VPN app with over one million downloads has been implicated in hosting its services on servers stolen from Windscribe.
Following Windscribe’s discovery, the app shifted its hosting to servers belonging to Private Internet Access (PIA) after Windscribe blocked its original access.

Yegor Sak, CEO of Windscribe, remarked, “This is essentially scammers scamming other scammers,” and indicated that such incidents are part of a larger pattern reflecting lax oversight by Google on new app submissions.
Both Windscribe and PIA offer unlimited device connections, allowing users to secure multiple devices under a single subscription.

Sak explained, “These scammers buy multiple Windscribe accounts and share them en masse via their own app by distributing OpenVPN credentials,” highlighting a common abuse method.
